Our Workforce & Community

We aim to build a workforce primarily composed of the local community, prioritizing their health, safety, and well-being. Our commitment extends to engaging in community welfare activities to support the areas where we operate.

Community Outreach

Before commencing exploration, our team met with village and religious leaders to hear their perspectives firsthand. These conversations helped us understand local priorities, map sensitive areas, and co-design practical safeguards. By starting with dialogue and not decisions, we’ve laid the groundwork for trust, transparency, and long-term partnership.

Government Stakeholder Outreach

During the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process, we hosted a scoping meeting with 18 key stakeholders. This was followed by a detailed de-brief at the District Secretariat, bringing together local government officials and community leaders. We then conducted a joint site visit so every stakeholder could see conditions on the ground, raise questions, and shape next steps. The result: a shared fact base and a clearer path to responsible development.

Livelihood Engagement: Fishing, Farming & Women’s Groups

We’ve engaged directly with fishing and farming communities, as well as women’s associations, to understand how the project can expand opportunity.

A cornerstone of this effort is a collaboration with JAT Holding PLC’s Pintharu Abhiman, a skills and certification programme designed to upskill women for better income and mobility. Participants will be trained and supported to obtain Level 4 (LVQ4) vocational certification, a recognized qualification that can strengthen employability. Our goal is simple: convert local talent into sustainable livelihoods.

Girls’ Cricket—Equipment Donation

Cricket is part of our company’s DNA, and we believe sport opens doors. Responding to a request from provincial authorities on the East Coast, we have committed to sponsor and promote girls’ cricket in the Eastern Province. Many promising players from rural communities have talent but limited access to gear. We’re stepping in with equipment donations. Starting with cricket bats, and broader support so girls can train, compete, and be seen.

Community Eye Care—Senthur Eye Camp

Together with the Eye Donation Society, successfully conducted a Free Eye Examination & Glasses Distribution Program in Kuchchaveli.

Over 360 free prescription glasses were provided, 40 detailed eye examinations carried out, and 50 additional glasses handed to the Divisional Secretariat for distribution among the needy. This initiative reflects our deep commitment to community upliftment and sustainable development.

We are grateful to the Divisional Secretary of Kuchchaveli, all community leaders, volunteers, and partners who made this meaningful project possible. Together, we are empowering lives and strengthening communities.

Upcoming Eye Camps—Kuchchaveli (October) & Nilaveli (November)

Building on the Senthur camp, we will run the same model in Kuchchaveli (October) and Nilaveli (November). Each camp will deliver screenings, free spectacles, and cataract surgery support, ensuring more families across the coast receive essential eye care without financial burden.

Community Infrastructure Support—Schools, Religious Places & Public Spaces

At the request of the Eastern Province Governor, we have committed to repairing and refreshing key community spaces including schools, places of worship, and other public buildings. Our role is to provide the necessary building materials and supplies, while encouraging local community members to volunteer in painting and restoration efforts. This approach not only enhances facilities but also strengthens bonds between our project team and the communities we work alongside, creating a sense of shared ownership and pride.
